Prysmian Group, Brayton Point – Submarine Cable Manufacturing Facility

Live Oak Consultants is providing Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Security and Telecommunications Engineering design services for this $200+ million dollar submarine cable plant in the USA for Prysmian Group, a world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry.

This state-of-the-art, green energy project is generating a lot of positive headlines, here is some of the news/buzz:

Prysmian Group welcomed U.S. President Joe Biden on July 20, 2022 to the site of its future submarine power cables plant in Brayton Point, Massachusetts, where it is investing $200 million to support the development of wind power as part of the U.S. energy transition.”

“At Brayton Point, Prysmian Group will build a high-tech manufacturing hub to make submarine inter-array and export cables up to 275 kV AC or 525 kV DC, which are needed to connect offshore wind farms to the mainland power grids for several projects already awarded to Prysmian. Biden used his visit to Brayton Point to lay out new measures to combat climate change, which he called “literally a clear and present danger,” in a live press conference from Brayton Point. “This is an emergency, and I will look at it that way.” Until five years ago, Brayton Point was the site of a towering fifty-year-old power plant with a cooling tower 500 feet high, the largest of its kind in New England, which could power one in five Massachusetts homes and businesses. It was closed as part of an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to the climate emergency.”  President Biden picks Brayton Point site for major climate change speech | Prysmian Group

“Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, is moving ahead with its project for a new submarine power cable plant in the United States. Prysmian Group and CDC Commercial Development Company announces the signing of the contract for the purchase by Prysmian of the site identified in Brayton Point (Massachusetts). The final acquisition of the site is subject to securing state permits for the construction of the new plant. Prysmian Group’s total investment to build the new plant will amount to around $200 million.” Prysmian Group: new submarine cable plant in the USA | Prysmian Group

“Prysmian Group is partnering with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the town of Somerset to bring a state-of-the-art submarine cable manufacturing facility to Brayton Point that will create jobs, boost the region’s economy, strengthen the community and serve as a hub for clean energy development in North America. Prysmian Group is an enabler of the critical energy transition now taking place. Renewable energy resources necessary for the world to achieve its sustainability goals require new technologies, like the submarine cable that will be manufactured at Brayton Point. It will be the first location in North America with the capability to produce these advanced cable products. Prysmian Group has exciting plans for Brayton Point, and we look forward to playing a role in the future of the community. We encourage you to learn more about Prysmian Group and why we are known as good neighbors in the communities where we do business across America.” Prysmian Brayton Point (prysmianatbraytonpoint.com)
