South Carolina Historical Society – Fireproof Building
Live Oak Consultants, LLC (LOC) is honored to provide Security Consulting and Design Services to the South Carolina Historical Society (SCHS); assessing and securing its Fireproof Building, a National Historic Landmark and home to its Headquarters in Charleston, SC.
Built in 1827 and located in the heart of Charleston, the Fireproof Building was named due to the fact that it is the first fireproof structure in the nation built specifically to protect documents and is now believed to be the oldest building of fireproof construction in the United States. The Fireproof Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and declared a National Historic Landmark.
Working closely with prominent Charleston Architect, Glenn Keyes and Directors at the South Carolina Historical Society, LOC developed a security Master Plan and implemented state-of-the-art security infrastructure and systems to protect the building, its employees and visitors, as well as irreplaceable historical artifacts, all while preserving the historical aesthetics of the structure.
Security enhancements were implemented as a complimentary piece of an extensive restoration program to renovate and repurpose this architectural treasure and open it to the public as an exciting portal to the history, genealogy, and culture of the Palmetto State.
